Seeing around corners

The MIT Media Lab have built a camera that can look around corners and beyond the line of sight. The camera uses light that travels from the object to the camera indirectly, by reflecting off walls or other obstacles, to reconstruct a 3D shape.

The NSA Implemented BigTable

Turns out the NSA implemented Google BigTable themselves years ago for internal use. Now they are open sourcing it. How nuts is this?
They are turning it over to the Apache Foundation. Check out the proposal here.

MacRuby vs. Objective-C

I’ve spoken a lot about expressiveness and terseness in programming languages, with a particular bias against Objective-C.
I’ve also expressed hope that MacRuby could be made a first-class language on OSX and save us from the syntax while still allowing us to use Cocoa in all it’s glory.

This article pretty much sums up why I hold the opinion that I do. Worth a glance.

The world’s fastest Rubik’s Cube-solving robot

A couple of friends of mine are now officially internet famous, having their Rubik’s Cube solving robotics project linked on Engadget and Physorg.

Solving the cube in 10.69 seconds it is now the current world record holder!
